Alex Trebek Smiles Alongside Daughters In Sweet #GirlDad Post

"Jeopardy!" Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational Tournament Show Taping

In March 2019, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek announced he'd been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Over the past 12 months, Trebek has kept his fans in the loop about his treatment. Throughout his first round of chemo, a setback in September and his second round of chemo this past fall, Trebek has continued to host Jeopardy!, as well, and promised his fans he isn't going anywhere.

Not only has Trebek been completely open about how his diagnosis has affected him and his ability to host Jeopardy!, he's also shared the challenges his family faced throughout his illness. During a joint interview with Good Morning America in January, Trebek's wife Jean told host Michael Strahan the "toughest part" of the past year is "when I see him in pain and I can’t help him."

Trebek added that the hardest part for him has been watching his wife and his children fret over him. “Its always tough for the caretakers because she has to deal with worrying for my wellbeing and also dealing with… I’m not always the most pleasant person to be around when I am experiencing severe pain and depression, and she has to tread lightly around me,” he said.

Despite the hard times, Trebek remains optimistic and continues to enjoy time with his family. His daughter Nicky shared a sweet photo with her dad and her sister Emily on Instagram. The caption included the viral hashtag #GirlDad, which honored Kobe Bryant after his tragic passing, as well as all the proud fathers of girls out there.

For now, Trebek will continue treatment, as well as hosting Jeopardy! with his wife and children by his side. “I’m hanging in,” Trebek told CTV during a recent interview. “So we’re back on the chemo and we’ll see if the numbers go down. And if they do … they can’t keep doing [chemo] forever of course. They’ll have to find a new protocol or whatever to administer. We’ll play it by ear and keep chugging along until we either win or lose."
