The Chainsmokers Detail What Fans Can Expect From Most 'Ambitious' Tour Yet

The Chainsmokers 2019

The Chainsmokers are preparing to drop another album, the followup to 2018's Sick Boy and 2017's Memories...Do Not Open, but they're also getting ready for a new massive world tour: "The World War Joy Tour."

Named after their upcoming album, "The World War Joy Tour" sees Drew Taggart and Alex Pall as they make their way through arenas in major cities across the world. Kicking off the North American leg of the trek on September 25th in Cincinnati, OH, the duo will stop in Detroit, Chicago, Brooklyn, Nashville, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa, Denver, Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles and more before wrapping up in Vancouver, BC on December 6th — and they're taking along 5 Seconds of Summer and Lennon Stella.

The guys tell iHeartRadio that the concept behind the name of their album and tour, "The 'World War Joy Tour' is named after our current album that we are still finishing called World War Joy. The whole concept about the name is, you know, we've been through a lot over the past couple of years and I feel like we found ourselves in the state of chaos. But, we're also living a life that we dreamed of living. So, we're constantly pushing ourselves, we're constantly in a battle with ourselves, with ourselves' identity — who we can be as artists, trying to find the best life for one another. And at the same time, it's the best time ever. We felt like World War Joy kind of summarized how we feel about everything right now."

Taggart and Pall's "World War Joy Tour" is set to be the most ambitious tour they've ever done, and if you follow along with them on social media, then you already know how excited they are to share the live show with their fans. In late June, the guys tweeted that they had "finalized the US tour production and it's the sickest thing [they've] ever seen."

But, it's been a journey for these two to get to that point. They tell us that while planning and looking back on their touring experience, they spent a lot of time making sure this is a show that fans will never forget. The guys explain that this tour took around a year to plan and has "gone through a bunch of iterations." They add, "We've had a bunch of tours leading up to this tour, where we've ironed out all the kinks, and I think we have the best show we could possibly put on. I think it's gonna be not just a big moment in our history, but I think a lot of people are going to look at this as like, we really raised the bar for touring in general."

As for what fans can expect from this tour, Alex and Drew tell us, "We have some of the most ambitious, crazy production ever. But, we want to make sure that we never lost the essence of the party with our show and make sure that everyone has an amazing time, no matter where you're sitting. And I think we've pulled it off, and we've put together a show that's going to blow a lot of people's minds. It couldn't be anything further away from a DJ show, but it couldn't be anything further away from a band show either. It's just truly unique and I think you guys are going to love it."

They add, "Our favorite part about playing arena shows is obviously the fact that we get to play for so many of our fans in a controlled setting. And what I mean by that is, you know, it's dark, we know exactly what we can do [and] what we can't do within the confines of the space. And we get pretty close to you guys. And the way we designed our stage and show really allows ourselves to give everyone in the arena a great vantage point of what's happening. And of course, getting the go around all over America and Canada playing shows for so many people and so many fans, especially in a lot of places we don't always get to go to is a real treat."

5 Seconds of Summer and Lennon Stella will be joining The Chainsmokers on their "World War Joy Tour," and both have recently collaborated with the duo. Earlier this year, the guys and 5SOS shared their hit "Who Do You Love," and more recently released is their Lennon Stella and Illenium collab "Takeaway."

Taggart and Pall tell us they are very much looking forward to having both 5 Seconds of Summer and Lennon out on tour with them, explaining, "We're super lucky we have Lennon Stella and 5 Seconds of Summer joining us on this tour, which is incredible. They're definitely the biggest artists that have ever come on tour with us and they are so different, not just only from each other, but different from us. And I think it's going to give just such an incredible dynamic performance. We have songs with each of them, so we're really looking forward to integrating them into what we do."
