Man Steals Car From Jail Parking Lot After Being Released From Prison

Kevin E. Jones

A Kansas man went right back to his criminal ways moments after being released from jail. Authorities said that 33-year-old Kevin E. Jones was released from Shawnee County Jail just after 9 a.m. on Sunday (10/21) morning. Later that afternoon, a prison employee reported that their car was stolen, and officials identified Jones as the culprit after reviewing surveillance footage.

Officials got a quick break in the case when they received a call about another car theft nearby. Responding officers found that neighbors and the owner the car had detained Jones and were holding him for the police. He was taken into custody and charged with theft of a motor vehicle and criminal damage. Police say that he caused around $700 worth of damage to the car as he attempted to steal it.

They managed to locate the car that was stolen from the jail's parking lot a few blocks away.
